Professional skills are specific.
They are manifested in every specific thing we say or do.
No one can be “generally professional.”
Go for specifics.
To add value to people
they must first feel that we value them.
Give them that feeling, through your
body language as well as your words.
Stress is often the result of
negative attitudes others throw at us.
Learn to duck.
If it can be solved, it’s a problem.
If it can’t be solved, it’s a fact.
Solve problems, accept facts.
There’s a place for small talk and humor.
It’s where we wish to connect,
so that we have their attention for learning.
Get their attention first.
Most of us are avid readers.
We read others' facial expressions,
as they read ours.
Make it their best read of the day.
We keep alive what
we keep talking about.
Keep only what’s positive alive.
Technical skills? Professional skills?
Both are essential.
However, 80% of success in the workplace
is the result of professional skills.
Make professional skills a habit.
The learner of anything must believe
the teacher is worth listening to.
The professional must determine
not to disappoint them.
Be a proud professional.
It is more likely that we will
disconnect by talking,
than it is that we will
disconnect by listening.
Listen more. Talk less.
